Captain Hook was one of my first sand sculptures of a character. And that shows… lots of mistakes. Making a character lying flat is a terrible idea, as it is impossible to view well or photograph.
Standing up, Hook would have been better, but the shape of his character would not be supported by sand, so you’d have to do a bust or waist up. So learn from my early mistake and either make your sand sculptures as free-standing, upright 3-dimensional characters or as a relief (like Mount Rushmore) etched into the side of a mound.
